USING OF ENGLISH-LANGUAGE SONGS IN LEARNING ENGLISH

Abstract:The article introduces an approach of learning English by using English pop- and rock songs and audiofiles. It gives a variety of ways of inventing the method and shows cons and pros of such practice. The popularity of learning English by listening music increases and recommendations of songs appropriate for learning grammar topicsare given.

Over the past few decades, scientists have made tremendous progress in the theory of mastering a foreign language, reaching the conclusion that the didactic combination of language with music is extremely productive. This fact had numerous experimental confirmations. Language and music are two ways of human`s communication and expression. These concepts are inextricably linked to each other by certain basic characteristics such as rhythm, dynamics, tone height, timbre, etc. That is why the methods of learning the language and music are very similar. Moreover, scientists argue that people who have good musical abilities can achieve great success and learning the language. Music can excite us, influence our feelings and resurrect memories from the past in memory. By stimulating our emotions and memories, it can have a tangible effect on learning, which, in turn, reinforces emotional performance, becomes more effective. Intonation of language, the ordering of tones of sounds, are the very first concepts we learn when we begin to master the language. Later, it is through interaction that we learn musical language, which is a prerequisite for successful communication [3].

When you start learning a new language, you have to deal with sounds that are not relevant to our speech apparatus. Listening to songs in English, as well as performing them, you will inadvertently get used to new sounds and learn to pronounce them correctly. In this way, you can catch the rhythm of language, learn to put semantic accents. The vocabulary of songs is learned much easier than from the vocabulary because the chorus repeat several times [2].

Learning a foreign language can begin in two ways: through oral and written activities. The first way (if you have the opportunity to choose) is more suitable for people with good mechanical memory, good hearing and simulation skills.The second way can be more appealing to people with good logical memory, a tendency to logical thinking, analysis and comparison. Nowadays an oral method becomes more and more effective with inventing of new techniques and skills. So that a lot of attention of learners and scientists is focused on this method [1].

Working with texts of English-language songs is a great way of learning new words and expressions, because they are learned in this way, they are memorized clearly and for a long time. Read the text of several of your favorite songs and choose words or expressions that you want to learn. Find their meaning and use them boldly in other contexts. It’s almost impossible to forget the lyrics because you will occasionally listen to a particular song or songs (especially if you like it). An important point in learning a song is the understanding of the text, because, the entire feeling of the listener is impossible without it. You can independently check your understanding by writing the text while listening to the audio recording, and then verifying with the so-called official version. Do not be upset if at some point you were wrong: carriers of the language are not always clearly distinguish the words of the song from the first time. Believe that the result will be worth your striving: studying only one song per week (besure, it does not take a lot of time) throughout the year gives you 52 studied songs in total, and this is a new vocabulary that is practically not forgotten [4].

Learning of foreign languages with the help of songs is possible either for children, of for adults. There are many sites on the network with lyrics. But it’s better to look for specialized web pages where you can simultaneously listen and translate your favorite English songs and immediately check the mastery of the material.

For choosing of the necessary material, a list of the most appropriate songs on different grammar topics of language is given:

Use of the music while studying English. Music will come to your aid in case you need to remember a list of words. And if you are not ashamed that someone will hear your “singing” whisper, you are guaranteed to remember more words from the vocabulary than they could. In addition, the process of creating your own song can make your education more fun. To get rid of accentyou will come to the rescue of so familiar songs, because they are a great example for pronunciation[4].

Subconsciously, when we listen to English-language songs, we mimic the native speaker, and as a result we speak better of ourselves. The rhythm also helps to improve pronunciation, intonation and makes language fluent. In all, there comes a period when learning becomes more complex. Thanks to the music difficulty is possible to get rid of.. Therefore, just listen to music while studying. It helps to relax and concentrate at the same time, focus on the subject of study and increase the ability to memorize words. In addition, music eliminates or weakens other sounds that can annoy or distract you. Music, of course, is an entertaining and, at the same time, an effective method of learning and improving the language.
